We’re currently looking for a high caliber professional to join our team as Officer, AML Financial Crimes Analytics and Data Science (FCADS) Statistician (Hybrid) (Internal Job Title: Model/Anlys/Valid Intmd Anlyst - C11) based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Being part of our team means that we’ll provide you with the resources to meet your unique needs, empower you to make healthy decision and manage your financial well-being to help plan for your future.  For instance:

Since 2010, Citi has been rolling out a strategic, globally consistent, repeatable FCADS Program to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the AML transaction monitoring system.  A dedicated FCADS team has been created to perform this important role. 

As of 2012, the AML FCADS team responsibilities have expanded to encompass four main work streams: Strategic FCADS (including model validation), Strategic Segmentation/ARS (including review of threshold setting as well as alert risk scoring models), Tactical Tuning (targeted analysis focusing on scenario effectives), and data modeling/validation.

Purpose of Role:

  • The Statistician will work under the supervision of senior team members to provide ongoing support in terms of required analysis.
  • The scope of analysis will cover all aspects of analysis performed by the team: FCADS, Segmentation, Tactical Tuning projects, and data modeling/validation efforts depending on current needs and project plans 
  • The Statistician will follow the globally consistent methodology, but is expected to have a high level of initiative and creativity and suggest enhancements to the current methodologies.
  • The Statistician will primarily focus on FCADS projects, while maintaining the flexibility to switch amongst work streams based on business need
  • Requirements include a background in data bases, warehouses, data processing, preferably also experience with statistics and data mining. Experience and knowledge in banking and finance will be desirable, as well as the ability to read and create formal documentation. 
  • Fluency in English and very good oral and written communication skills are necessary.

Key responsibilities

  • Automate data extraction and data preprocessing tasks. Perform ad hoc data analyses. Design and maintain complex data manipulation processes. Provide consistent documentation and presentations.
  • Conduct data-driven analysis and create reports. Apply quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods; prepare statistical and non-statistical data exploration. Validate data, identify data quality issues (if any), and work with Technology to address them.  Analyze and interpret data reports, draw conclusions and make recommendations answering specific business needs.
  • Document solutions and present results in a simple comprehensive way to non-technical audience, as well as write more formal documentation using statistical vocabulary.
  • Generate new ideas, concepts and models to improve methods of obtaining and evaluating quantitative and qualitative data. Identify relationships and trends in data, as well as any factors that could affect the results of research. Question and validate assumptions. Escalate identified risks and sensitive areas in terms of methodology and processes.
  • Maintain an industry leading knowledge of the tools, systems and processes available for best in class AML Detection and Monitoring Operations.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

  • Teamwork:  Ability to work well with a variety of people and to show team-player attitude regardless the scope of responsibilities.
  • Creativity: Provide input into the innovation of new and enhanced approaches. Having initiative and a proactive attitude is desirable.

Experience:

Must have:

  • Strong academic background, knowledge of quantitative methods
  • Good knowledge of  SAS, SQL , Python , Big data tools and/or other data processing languages (SAS 4GL is preferable)
  • Highly-skilled and good knowledge of MS Excel and VBA experience
  • Experience in reporting the results of analysis in clear written form, and in presenting the findings during meetings and conference calls
  • Min. 2-3 years of experience in a large corporation, preferably experience of multicultural environment
  • Team working experience (demonstrated team player ability required)
  • Understanding of technical requirements, ability to communicate with Technical Support

Desirable:

  • Experience with statistical modelling
  • Mantas and AML monitoring systems experience or other transaction monitoring systems a plus
  • Knowledge of the local/regional laws and regulations applicable to anti-money laundering
  • Previous experience with financial services companies (retail banking, small business banking, commercial, institutional, private banking)
  • Knowledge of any programming language or dedicated statistical software would be an advantage

Qualifications:

  • Master degree in statistics/mathematics /actuarial sciences/economics.
  • Degree in economics/banking may be considered if strong analytical skills proved.
