Institutional Credit Management (ICM) is an in-business and first Line of Defence (1LoD) function within Citi dedicated to end-to-end wholesale credit risk (WCR) management. ICM covers numerous products, regions, and lines of businesses (LoBs) – all while providing the controls and support necessary to help reduce Citi’s risks.

The In-Business Quality Assurance function (QA) verifies that established standards and processes are followed and consistently applied. ICG Management uses the results of the quality assurance reviews to assess the quality of the group's policies, procedures, programs, and practices as relates to the management of wholesale credit risk. The results help management identify operational weaknesses, risks associated with the function, training needs, and process deficiencies.

Sr. Data Architect / Engineer is a key member of our prime data analytics team, responsible for designing, developing, and leading big data solutions for IBQA team. He/she will work with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of data engineering projects and contribute to our data architecture and technology strategy.

This role reports to the ICM Head of In-Business Quality Assurance Head of Data Analytics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the In-Business Quality Assurance Head of Data Analytics in implementation and ongoing delivery of a robust Data analytics infrastructure
  • Lead the design and implementation of large-scale, complex big data solutions using technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Unix, Autosys.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and data analysts to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Mentor and guide a team of junior developers, providing technical leadership and fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
  • Perform data modelling, ETL development, and data transformation tasks to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and availability.
  • Optimize and tune big data applications for performance and scalability, ensuring efficient data processing and storage.
  • Identify and implement best practices for data governance, data quality, and data security across the data ecosystem.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in the big data space and make recommendations for adopting new tools and frameworks.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure the proper setup and maintenance of big data clusters and environments.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical design sessions to ensure high-quality solutions.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards. Support WCR IBQA Voice of the Employee (VOE) as well as diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Travel (less than 10%)

Skills/Competencies: 

  • 14+ years of hands-on experience in big data development on Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, Impala, Kafka, Yarn, Hive, Flink etc..
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing end-to-end big data solutions, from data ingestion to data processing and analytics.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Scala, Java or Python.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data modelling, ETL development, and data transformation.
  • Must have experience with RDBMS database MSSQL or Oracle etc.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL technologies e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra etc.
  • Ability to design data models using any Data modelling tools like ERWin, Visio etc..
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring junior developers and leading technical projects.
  • Proficiency in data governance, data quality, and data security tools and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Technical: 

  • Coding knowledge and experience with at least two programming languages (C++, Python, Java, R, etc.).
  • Proven experience of CICD/Agile collaborative working.
  • Experience in Big data integration (you have worked with TBs of data before), HiveQL, DataIKU, Hadoop, MapReduce, REST API Denodo or Datameer.
  • Experience with deep learning framework PyTorch strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
  • Any relevant certifications or advanced degrees preferred.
  • Skills : SQL, Python, Code reviews, Build processes, Operations, Testing, Spark, Message queuing, Stream processing
  • Coding standards Visualisation: Tableau; Qlikview; MS Power BI.
  • Programming language: Python, Java, C++, PyCharm
  • Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
