About the Global Public Affairs Team

Global Public Affairs seeks to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses and the brand through direct and indirect communication with Citi's various stakeholders, including our colleagues. The Business and Corporate Communications team is a nimble team in Global Public Affairs that covers a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from Executive communications and public engagements to quarterly earnings and corporate reputation programs as well as communications that support our lines of business. The nature of the work provides a dynamic environment where members of the team serve as company spokespeople to media, drive engagement with colleagues and develop external and internal digital communications for a global workforce of more than 200,000 colleagues. Within Citi, the team works with many internal partners, including senior leadership, and regularly coordinates closely with other members of the Global Public Affairs team across the world.

About the Role

The Sr. Group Manager, U.S. Site & Markets Communication, is a key member of Citi’s global Communications team within the Global Public Affairs organization. Leading a team distributed all over the U.S., this role will set the communications vision, strategy and priorities for Citi’s U.S. sites and markets. This position will report to the Managing Director of Enterprise Internal Communications and will work closely with global communications colleagues, Citi’s Solutions Center (CSC) Network, site leaders, subject matter experts, and external stakeholders to build, execute, measure, and refine a holistic, engaging approach to communication within our 21 U.S. facilities & markets.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading and supporting a capable and agile team of approximately 20 public affairs and communication colleagues, driving communication & engagement plans that tell the story of Citi’s vision, strategy, transformation & culture.

You’ll envision how the team can continue to raise the bar for how we engage with colleagues at the local level, while not losing sight of the broader context of Citi’s strategy. You’ll bring Citi to life for employees through signature programs that support charitable giving, community efforts, communication, engagement, diversity & inclusion, and branding & sponsorships. As a member of the local leadership team, you’ll flex to meet the diverse and ever-changing needs of your local site and/or market – while also serving as a member of regional and enterprise teams – helping to bridge the gap between all. You’ll work closely with leaders in other functions, with others on the Communications team, and with colleagues across the company, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor and someone who can get things done – a “strategic tactician.”

We’re looking for an excellent communicator, a curious listener, and persuasive presenter. We’re looking for an experienced leader, writer, and executor who loves complex and cross functional communication projects. You’ll have a passion for using data to inform your work, and you’ll have a strong record of working collaboratively with many different colleagues and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for building and maintaining a communications, messaging & engagement strategy & plan that aligns with Citi’s Global Public Affairs, Communications and Regional teams, as well as other stakeholders.
  • Responsible for overall team leadership, strategic oversight, and execution of regional, market, and local content & messaging through new, digital, and traditional channels.
  • Responsible for overall team, budget, resources, and processes, exhibiting a high degree of integrity along the way.
  • Serve as a key member and strategic advisor to multiple leadership teams, specifically with Citi Solutions Center (CSC) Network, Enterprise Internal Communications, Business & Corporate Communications, and Local.
  • Provide communications coaching and preparation for site & market senior leaders, site heads and leadership teams.
  • Coordinate and deliver creative internal communications approaches at U.S. markets & site levels that support companywide efforts, ensuring message consistency.
  • Drive the development of local engagement programs across a variety of forums & channels that support charitable giving, community efforts, communication, engagement, diversity & inclusion, and branding & sponsorships.
  • Lead the strategy & local execution of Citi’s U.S. charitable contribution strategy with the non-profit community, fostering employee engagement and partnering closely with corporate Community Relations and local business leadership teams. Collaborate with corporate Community Relations to meet CRA requirements, as appropriate.
  • Manage and drive U.S. volunteerism campaigns in support of company-wide programs.
  • Set the strategy for identifying local sponsorship opportunities that create brand awareness and achieve strategic site goals within the U.S.
  • Define and manage local employee reward & recognition, sponsorship & branding, and charitable contributions budgets.
  • Lead the coordination of local media relations efforts, with the appropriate corporate communications teams.
  • Lead the coordination of local government affairs activities, under the guidance of Government Affairs.
  • Partner closely with functional and business leaders to inform and advise on ongoing regional and site level issues and opportunities.
  • Serve as a key member of the crisis communications team.
  • Develop best practices, processes, models & tools to manage and coordinate senior leader visits, local town halls and employee events, ensuring consistency with global approaches.
  • Partner closely with Communications leadership and teams to inform and advise on both ongoing communications work and areas of opportunity.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
  • Expert knowledge of communications and 10+ years of increased responsibility for communications management, preferably internal with a large and complex organization
  • Demonstrated track record of developing successful and proactive internal communications programs that employ creativity and use a variety of tools, forums and media
  • A leader who will implement initiatives effectively and motivate others to contribute
  • Strong communications (written, verbal and interpersonal) skills, including tact, diplomacy, and ability to influence senior executives
  • Integrity, maturity, dependability, flexibility, a positive professional attitude
  • Excellent organizational, project management and public speaking skills
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based environment within a heavily matrixed organization
  • Strategic mindset to integrate business strategy into all communications, connect the dots globally and locally, and understand the complex landscape of our work at Citi
  • Track record of success in delivering high quality work in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Experience managing large teams of staff, agencies, and contractors
  • Proven experience as a trusted communications advisor to business partners and leaders
  • Agency experience helpful
